Apple Confirms Prolonged Supply Constraints for Mac Mini and Mac Studio
Apple CEO Tim Cook announced today that supply shortages for the Mac mini and Mac Studio will continue for several more months, citing unexpected demand driven by artificial intelligence applications. Many configurations of both desktop Macs are currently out of stock across Apple's online store and retail locations.
“Customer interest in agentic AI use cases—such as OpenClaw—has pushed demand beyond our forecasts,” Cook said during the company's quarterly earnings call. “Combined with ongoing industry constraints for advanced semiconductor nodes and memory components, we expect these supply challenges to persist.”
Background: The Pro Desktop Drought
The Mac mini and Mac Studio are Apple's most powerful desktop machines, favored by creative professionals, developers, and researchers. Since their launches, both models have faced intermittent availability, but this is the most severe shortage yet.
Apple's pro lineup has historically experienced supply tightness due to high-performance chip requirements and low-volume manufacturing. The company had not previously attributed delays to AI-driven demand until today's call.
